The building is set in Markfield Park, in the grounds of the former Tottenham Sewage Works which provided a vital public health facility serving this north London area from the 1850’s to 1964.
The Markfield Beam Engine and Museum is a Charitable Trust Organisation, incorporated in 1984 and a Member of the Association of Independent Museums (AIM), the Industrial Heritage Networks (IHN) and the Lee Valley Heritage Alliance (LVHA). The Museum is run by a Trustee Board with a team of volunteers, with no paid staff.
